Vacation 2011 M
Astoria - Tillamook - Depoe Bay - Brookings - Oregon

Wednesday - - 20 July 2011

-
Astoria OR - KOA - - tiny teardrop trailer in foreground - our R-pod on the far right.
The morning we were going to leave they had a free pancake breakfast, delicious.
Then as we finished eating it began to rain. Everything is really green here. It must rain often.
The rain did not bother Joseph... he and a few other youth played some miniture golf despite the drizzle.

Neighbors at camp in Astoria said they were going to tour the Tillamook cheese factory.
I had not thought to do so, but there it was on the Hwy looking very inviting.
The samples tasted very good. I had at least 3 runs through the sample line... tasting different varieties of course
An organization of the local dairy herd owners provides the milk

Interesting bridge made of concrete and steel. This one located a little south of Tillamook.
There are several of these in Oregon. They look like they were made some time ago, and still look solid.

Depoe Bay
where there is an annual small wooden boat show

Where we parked the R-pod and Suburban while touring the Depoe Bay harbor on foot
If you drive down to the harbor via the steep northern street this is as far as you can pull a trailer.
To reach the launching ramp one approaches the harbor from the southern side, which is south of the bridge.

Yaquina Bay Bridge - like many this one has Art Deco decorations at each end. The city of Newport is at the Northern end of the bridge.
It is about 12 miles south of Depoe Bay OR and about 58 miles south of Tillamook OR.

Coastal northern Oregon

Some trees, when broken, rise again and keep growing.

Note the car in the upper left hand corner. It is a long way down to the beach.
Behind the spit of land in front of the mountains there is a lagoon.

The how and why of the coast road - from a roadside sign.

An example of the technique

Can you find all 3 waders in this lagoon? - one has feathers.

-
The harbor at Brookings, Oregon has a mix of commercial and pleasure vessels.

-

Brookings - Harborview - a residential RV camp which also has spaces for transients
staff very accomodating - amenities incredibly clean.
yes, that is light fog. Lots of fog in this general area on the coast.
It was getting late in the day and we had not yet found a place to camp.
We followed a sign just after we crossed a bridge at the southern edge of Brookings and
found this excellent RV camp.
