McAllen, TX -- Denison TX - Oklahoma through Tulsa - Rolla, MO ~~~ 28 - 29 May 2019
We departed McAllen TX at 8:50 AM heading North on Interstate 69 (old US Hwy 281). At 9:55 AM we arrived at the Border Patrol Checkpoint.
The new Border Patrol checkpoint, on US Hwy 281 (or Intersate 69 as it may be called now) just a few miles south of Falfurrias, TX
This checkpoint has more lanes and is a bit larger than the previous one, which was some 50 yards south of the new one.
A few miles past the checkpoint and some 3 miles before arriving in Falfurrias an older pickup truck passed us and
its right rear tire catastrophically failed in an explosion of rubber.
We stopped to help. He did not have a spare tire, or rim, so we drove him 3 miles into Falfurrias.
Cell phones located a couple of tire shops which could provide a tire and rim.
We stopped at one chatted with proprieter and left our new friend in what we hope were good hands.
Stopped at George West just before noon and had lunch at the very convenient DairyQueen there.
It was amazingly crowded for so early mid-day.
Here we jogged East off US Hwy 281 on US Hwy 59 a few miles to Interstate 37, got gas at the corner and
headed on North through San Antonio and Austin.

With all the building downtown, one can barely see the State Capital. In 1966 it stood alone and proud.
The Texas State Capital building is actually taller than the Capital building in Washington, D.C.
We stopped at Waxahatchi, TX at a Walmart and bought a couple of seat cushions for the Suburban.
Then we navigated through Dallas, TX, always a chore. There is one cutoff which if you miss you end up
down on the streets in central Dallas (did that by bad navigation late at night some years ago do not want to repeat it.)
