There is a long steep downhill run (6.5 percent grade) into Ithaca approaching from the West.

In the town of Ithaca, NY

approaching downtown Ithaca. The building with the flags is City Hall and the Police Dept.

The Thompson County Public Library is across the street from the Ithaca City Hall,
and very near their Commons area a couple of city blocks with many shops which is closed to automobile traffic

The office of the Embassy Inn Motel where we stayed. It is in a quiet rural setting about a mile out of the town proper.
