This book is divided into 3 logical books. It is translated into English and written in the style of English writing of the mid 1800s.
Book I. generally describes travels and some places.
Book II. is generally about Kublai-kaan (editors spelling) the emperor and generally about the empire in year 1256 on.
Book III. is generally about the area Marco Polo describes as India, or at least not Central or East Asia (China).
This version of Marco Polo is from what may be the original which was written by the jailed companion of Marco Polo - Giambattista Rambusio, who was from Pisa. People from Pisa spoke and wrote in an Italnanate version of French. So the first known version of the The Description of the World was written in a version of French. That is the version that was translated by W. Marsden and revised by T. Wright. - - It may be intersting for the reader to also read - The Adventures of Ibn Battuta - A Muslim traveler of the fourteenth century by Dunn, Ross E. pub by - University of California Press, Berkley and Los Angeles, California, USA 1986 - isbn 0-520-05771-6 - - the basic document was written about approximately 50 years after Marco Polo visited some of the same places. This will give the reader another view of the world East of Europe in generally the same era. - - Both can be good reads for those interested in historical geography.
