The Picts and Martyrs or Not Welcome at All
by Ransome, Arthur

I needed a break from heavier stuff, so re-read this book from my youth, and
thoroughly enjoyed it.
The story revolves around a couple of children invited to stay with friends and their mother at their home in the Lake District in England. The mother takes a vacation to regain her health leaving her daughters and the family cook to take care of things. Their great aunt, who is a stickler for doing things formally and -right- hears of this and comes, un-invited, to supervise the situation. The invited children could not be explained, so - camp out - in a little stone hut nearby. They live in hidden state - and the adventures of doing so make this book interesting.
