This is one of the Leaphorn. Chee and Manuelito mystery series of author, Anne Hillerman.
The Tale Teller is an artfully woven together story of 3 different investigations which over the course of the novel come together to an interesting an satisfying conclusion.
This story begins with Joe Leaphorn, a retired Navajo police detective who has become a private investigator being asked to look into some missing Navajo museum donations. A second thread involves Navajo police woman Bernie Manuleto being infomed of a theft and recovery at a flea market of a bolo tie, which may be involved in a number of thefts. Her husband Navajo policeman Jim Chee is thoroughly involfed in the events, his adventures weaving into the storyline. Bernie's younger problematic sister adds complexity to the plot, and family relations all around are part of the story.
There is very good character development and there is nothing in the story that is unbelievable, but it is totally engrossing.
A very good read.
