Troop and Crew 583 Campout
at Dr. G's ranch - near Mission, TX

May 16-17, 2009

Again, as in September 2008, this campout was for fellowship,
some advancement for younger scouts
and generally to have fun.

The long arm of the pool has been extended and is now 50 meters long. Great for lap swimming.

The Scouts decided to construct a flagpole and have a formal flag raising.

Lashing up the pole from shorter poles.

Some older Scouts worked with younger Scouts assisting them with advancement.

The hamock was a favorite place.

For the first time in 3 months it RAINED.
It began with some thunder and lightning. We exited the pool and rested.
It began raining, then poured, then rained again for another hour before stopping.
Fortunately we were under cover.

As it rained and blew, streaks of water appeared on the screens.

A front passed and overnight it got cool. By morning it was very pleasant.

After supper most headed back into the water... and the hot tub for an evening soak.

Climbing the rope was hard work.

We pitched tents, without rain flys, to avoid those few hungry mosquitos as we slept.
All slept well and we had a fairly late morning. Then we de-camped, breakfasted and headed back to McAllen.
One of the younger scouts finished completing all requirements for Second Class.

The major activity area as we left it on Sunday morning.
