Boy Scout Troop 583
Luminaria lighters at the
City of McAllen La Posada parade - December 8, 2007

Most of the lighters and the trailer
loaded with some 1,200 luminarias
ready to be placed out along the route and lit.

-

Lighting and re-lighting. It was a breezy night.
After several re-lightings we developed a technique which
allowed us to get them lit and stay lit.

Police escort led the parade.

A large contingent of angels led the Holy Family.

Mary, Joseph and their donkey

The Three Kings followed, and brought up the end along with a few shepherds.

Relaxing after the parade.

-
A luminaria is a paper sack with some sand in the bottom to add stability, then a stub of a candle is added on the sand which when lit gives a warm glow. They are used with great effect to highlight areas. They are popular in Santa Fe, NM.
