Duckworks Second Annual Messabout

at Magnolia Beach, Matagorda Bay, Texas
May 22 - 23, 2004
It was a breezy day. The wind was blowing diagonally off the beach, making it easy to get off the beach.


Charlie Jones' CLC-John’s Sharpie is the 2 masted boat.
It is a exquisetly crafted example of the boatbuilders art, and very fast too.

Cecil Karnes' - very red Calapso - boat that folds flat.
It was originally built many years ago and is enjoying a new coat of paint.
The man trying it out is not the owner/builder.

He managed to actually row the boat, also paddle it, taking it almost 100 yards off the beach and back without swamping it!

Mittelstaedt's 13 ft. skiff, the Ocean Breeze.
It is home designed, with a Dolphin Sr. sail that was a gift from a neighbor.
This gift saved having to design and sew a sailing rig.


Chat at end of day and after potluck supper. Some of those who lingered.

This year there two or three times as many attendees as last year.
It was a great gathering. - Thanks Chuck and all the othes who made it happen.

For those of you who do not live in Texas, this event was located between Houston and Corpus Christi, and just east of Victoria, Texas. The nearest town of any size is Port Lavaca, just a few miles west of the site... as the ad in Duckworks said... 28.55966 North Latitude and 96.53672 West Longitude.
