FLEET CAPTAIN'S REPORT - 2007

You should have all gotten a 2007 Activity Calendar and a 2007 Racing Program in the mail by now. We have a lot of FUN activities planned and hope you will be a part of as many as possible. Mark your home calendar's now. In addition to our Spring & Fall Bay & Gulf Racing Series, we now have 4 Off Shore Races scheduled and are looking at the September 29th Race as an "over-nighter". The Raft Ups will all be held in the Anchor Marina Turning Basin. The Memorial Day expedition this year will be to the Arroyo Colorado rather than to Port Mansfield.

On tap for February 17th we will have a "Racing 101" Seminar particularly designed for those who have not raced before. Racing is really a neat thing to do and we will go over Right of Way rules, our starting sequences, and some tactics & strategy. It would also be a good refresher for the "Old Salts". This will be held immediately following the 10:30 AM Skippers Meeting. There will be 3 short races held to tune up your boats, practice starts, and try out some new techniques. No trophies. The 3rd race of the day will be a "CREW RACE" where the crew will be the Skippers to see what they can do. We will give our usual winners award.

On Sunday 2/18/07 we will have the SPI Bay Boat Parade. Power & Sailboats will meet between the Bridges at 1:30 PM and we will form a line and Motor up the channel on the West side of South Padre Island to where Parrot Eyes used to be. I've found that the ladies really love to do this as they survey all the neat real estate along the way. Once there you can head for home however you would like. Fill your boat with friends and let's have a fun day on the water.
