is taking a long time to fix - by April 2018 the town was ready to host the event.
The Festival was in Roberts Park - as it was in previous years it is adjacent to the Port Aransas yacht basin / harbor
and just east of the Port Aransas Ferry docks on the North end of the Port Aransas, on Mustang Island, Texas
This event was created by Duckworks and the Farley Boat Works (part of the Port Aransas Museum)
The Texas chapter of the TSCA Traditional Small Craft Association was also involved

Saturday events offically started at 9:00 AM. By 9:15 AM there was a breath of North wind, by 9:30 there was a lot of wind
with gusts in excess of 30 mph and the temperature dropped, eventually to the mid 50 degree (F.) range. Luckily there was no real rain.
Sunday morning the wind had moderated but the temperature at beginning of day was colder,
perhaps 50 degrees F. The epoxy at the Family boat building was very slow to begin setting up.
By Noon one could think of removing one's jacket.
This was the year of the no sweat and hang on to your hat Wooden Boat Festival.

sample - what a finished boat would look like after painting
4 6 2018 - 10.45 am - - setup on Friday morning
4 6 2018 - 2.59pm - - getting the sides, transom and stem connected can happen quickly
4 6 2018 - 2.59pm - - chines set in after sides stem and transom attached
4 6 2018 - 2.30pm - - trimming the fore end of chines to be set in on the stem
4 6 2018 - 5.06pm hull right side up - - gunwales (also know as sheer strakes) being added on the outer surface of the sides
4 6 2018 - 5.06pm - - bending the gunwale to the side
6-7-2018 - 10,40 am - ready to add the bottom
6-7-2018 10,41 am - bottom epoxied and screwed on.
in a previous maneuver the rectangular bottom part was set on top
of the upside down hull and was traced around the hull, then cut out with a jigsaw.
4 8 2018 - 10.38 am - - installing the thwart (seat) risers
note that the gunwale was doubled - to make that top edge stronger
4 8 2018 - 10.38 am - - fitting the thwarts (seats)
4 8 2018 am - - better view of gunwale double, at bow (front of boat) before end is trimmed off
It was too cold for the epoxy to properly set up enough to launch the boats.
And as the hulls were esentially completed, and the builders wanted to do more finishing,
the hulls were removed from Roberts Park to Farley Boatworks
to be finished when the family builders would return the following weekend.

building the frame. note that the bit of 2x4 under the frame, that is the stronback for this build.
It is removed after the frame is all together.
Also note the shirtsleeve weather - on Friday before the cold front blew in.
detail on framing at bow
frame completed - turned upside down in preparation for applying polyester skin to bottom
the front is to the right in this photo
No epoxy is used, frame parts just screwed together.
laying the polyester cloth skin on the bottom
stretching the skin (polyester cloth) on the bottom and stapling it to the gunwale
trimming the excess cloth off the bottom with a scissors after all is stapled on the gunwale.
bottom skin applied - the front is to the left in this photo
heat treating (very slightly shrinking - the polyester cloth - very gently - to tighten it up
one could also use an iron as is used to press clothes, but be very careful and use a light hand
after applying the cloth to the top and stapling it to the gunwales
sewing the cockpit entrance to the hole in the top skin
note that there are pre-drilled holes in the cockpit entrance
Yes, it is possible to steam and bend many types of wood into such a circle and secure with copper rivits.
Thin strips of wood attached (screwed) to the outside of the rails to finish the edge
Then final heat treating to slightly tighten up the skin.
The recipients of the finished hull.
For final completion a couple of coats of plain oil based paint should be applied.
